-BIOGRAPHY-
I, George Pierson Garrick was born in Chicago, Illinois
but grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma after moving there in 1952. When I started going to summer camp at age 6; I began learning about the arts. Every summer I went to Camp Ke-Mo for 6 weeks until I was 12 years old. Also, those summers I studied the arts at Philbrook Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
During the summer of 1959 I was the only survivor of an airplane crash. We fell from 1200 feet into a forest outside Springfield Missouri . There were 5 of us, one being my father. The next ten years I spent healing and learning to cope with the difficulties of re-entering social life. After graduating from Memorial High School, in Tulsa Oklahoma. I majored in Technical Illustration while I minered in Journalism at Tyler Jr. College.
Then back in Tulsa I brought different artists together to sell their creations in a business known as BuckWheat & Leather that Gayle & I had. The location was at East 15th Street and South Delaware Avenue. Gayle and I were tailors of leather or fur. We only sold what was made by local artists as silversmiths, goldsmiths, and other artists such as those from The University Of Tulsa. I also did my studies at The University Of Tulsa Art Department. Gayle and I soon learned that success also came from the ability to be creative as BuckWheat & Leather lasted for 6 years.
During my life I have traveled to 18 or more countries avoiding tourists as though they were a plague. From this I felt better able to get to know the natives of each country I was part of. I believe that all progressive governments are the same, as I believe all of the cultures of those progressive governments are different from each other.
On March 6, 1984 a car crash caused my second closed-head injury. I am still learning to cope with those difficulties I received from that accident. Since then I have studied Meditation, Yang Tai Chi Chuan and the computer that make my life easier to cope with. I have always been focused on the arts as I would work with one medium or another. For me, variety is the spice of life. Many of my creations I have been able to save, as my home over the years has become an art gallery. My belief is one must deicate their life to be able to live in an art gallery of their's and other artist's creations.
All of my life I have from time to time written down my thoughts. 12 years ago I decided to write a book which would cause the reader to think or have realizations. Since then 5 of my books have been published. The first book “Secret Thoughts” was indoctrinated into the Tulsa City Library. Then The Tulsa County Library and then one at a time all of my books were inducted in the Special Section Of The Oklahoma Governor’s Library; as I am working on my next book.
Through my life I have been inspired by other artists and their creations. My most favorite artist is Michel Angelo, as his birthday is on March 6th. I hope what I have created and will create inspires others to at least understand that life-is-art, as the mediums that artists use for their creations are messages in a language that artists have learned to understand and use to educate and or inspire each other.
In closing:
I believe that all Native American silver, turquoise and or coral and shell jewelry is an art, that is our nations heritage.
